Even the most shade-tolerant grass needs at least six hours of direct sun a day, Ann. If you can't provide that, you will do far better with a shade-tolerant ground cover.

Any suggestions on ground cover, I have the same issues. Is there a ground cover you can still walk on?

I have used a dwarf mondo grass in my shady areas, and it seems to love those conditions.

Check out Michigan Bulb Co and Brecks. Both of these companies are awesome with customer service to get you exactly what you need and will even give you some tips you may not have thought of.
