It is amazing what adding a simple object or design details can do for a garden!
In this post, I look how simple design moves can really effect the way we experience a garden.
A view that's pretty enough...
but has the possibility of being so much more! It is amazing the impact a few carefully chosen, well-placed objects can have.
Here we have a nondescript corner of a country garden. Now add in a simple ceramic pot.
Before you might have walked straight in, stood there a moment, glanced around quickly and then turned on your heels and left.
A second look at how a well-placed object can really add that little bit extra.
A little column topped with a sculpture of a bird gives the cluster of pink roses a point of interest for the eye to focus on.
In this shot, there is just a lawn.
In this version, there is a pathway and a clear invitation to come, sit and relax.
It is always nice to create an end destination when you send visitors down a garden path. In this photo, there is no bench at the end of the path.
See what a difference a bench makes. Now there is a place that you can stroll to and sit while you appreciate the flowers.
And it doesn't matter if your garden isn't all that big. The same design principals apply even in a smaller garden or backyard.
Here the addition of an archway is a really nice touch. Without it, the yard is one big open space. Now the archway suggests an entrance and divides the space into two "rooms".
And with the addition of a few chairs, it becomes a place to go and sit while you enjoy the garden.

Oh my goodness, what beautiful and captivating photos! Shelties are adorable. Just precious. You are so blessed to be guardian to such a beautiful puppy. So sorry to hear about Rusty... I had a Scotch collie from when I was 1 1/2 - 14. He was the best! Sadly, he stepped or fell into the irrigation canal and couldn't get out, as his back legs had become limited in use. But what wonderful memories. Enjoy your "baby". And thank you for the reply :)

I would love to have the software you used. I could plan my yard so much better! What a great idea and truly gave the difference an item or two makes!
