This cool post from a couple of days ago has a lot of great ideas:
There have also been a variety of creative headboard projects posted here on Hometalk over time.
You might find some more ideas browsing through this list:
I love using repurposed items, such as old doors, or old fencing. Great patina!
I built this entire bed from Aspen logs....a stand alone headboard could be built as well.
Wow, KMS, that is gorgeous! Bet it weighs a bit too.
I vote Old door. I have seen it mounted straight to the wall. Looks great.
Great ideas. Beautiful bed, KMS! Thank you all.
Another is to use an old door or you can put several long shutters together. I'm getting ready to do this also.
Lots of great ideas. Unfrtunately nothing has popped yet ... I haven't a clue what I want!
I made this one from mdf board, micro suede fabric, quilt batting and a metal wall decoration. It simply hangs on the wall like a picture.
I used a set of four byfold louvered doors as a headboard. They were already painted white. All I did was distress them a little and attach them together and fasten to bed frame. They came out great.
Judy, take a day and go through antique shops ,garage sales or Salvation Army. You may very well see something that you could use that you love. Sometimes it is right in front of us but we can't see it. Concentrate on just looking for that one unique piece that would make a perfect headboard. Be sure to send a picture of what you use! Good luck and happy hunting!
If you find a shape head board that you love, you can buy molding and other shape to decor rate with, and make it as extreme or plan as you want. I'm fixing a 100 Yreka old head board I've have, only I'm replicating pieces that are missing with plaster.
