I purchased a Numerar butcherblock table top from IKEA about a year ago. It had been sitting in my garage ever since. After looking everywhere for a base I purchased the Karpalund base from IKEA as well. I wanted something large so I loved the size of the Numerar which is actually meant for a kitchen island. The dimensions are about 73 inches by 39 inches. This made it perfect for my kitchen since I wanted a large table with plenty of room for everyone. Two coats of stain and about 5 coats of Waterlox and my table was done!
The finished product in my kitchen.
Testing out which stain I wanted to use and how many layers. I did this on the underside of the table.
I sanded the factory finish off with an orbital sander.
First coat of Minwax Dark Walnut...
...followed by the second coat.
I applied about 5 coats of Waterlox for a glossy, tough, food safe finish.
