Framed sailor knots remake.

Bron
by Bron
I found this old framed display of sailor knots in an opp shop and decided I could do something with it. I removed the display from the frame and have kept the individual knots and labels aside. It looks a bit of a mess I know as I started tearing them off before the photo. One idea I had was to put the knots in groups of 2-3 into individual frames, but before I do it I thought I would put it out there to all the creative people on home talk to see if I get any better ideas from you all.

Honestly I think the look would wow better all together. Maybe start with the rope in the middle and go from there, creating a total art image.

@Janet Pizaro yes I see what you mean. Because I live in a rental I can only use the sticky hooks to hang things. I think the frame with the piece was too heavy for this idea though. I do like the idea of a total art image. Thank you

I would put each one in a separate, but similar frame and mount them as a collage on a wall.

http://www.completely-coastal.com/2013/07/nautical-knot-board.html. I really like the second to last one in this post, the shadow box with the map underneath. Not that unusual, but nice looking. For something different, how about mounting them on driftwood?

@Colleen Thank you there are so many lovely ideas on the site you sent.

If I was doing this, I would mount the grouping of knots, with the labels, on a navy blue background, and frame them in a white-painted wood frame. They were originally mounted on a dark background for visibility of the white-colored rope/knots. A navy background, would be in keeping with all things nautical, and a crisp white frame would freshen up the entire composition.

@Luanna hello yes I like your idea. I found some lovely white textured frames yesterday so am going to give it a go :) will post photos when I finish.

If you have room, these would look nice in the top of a shadow box style display table. You could arrange them however you wish and not have to worry about permanently adhering them in a frame or hanging something heavy on a wall.
