I would first try putting baking soda down the drain followed by white vinegar, leaving long enough to start the breakdown of the clog then keep very hot water running. If that does not work you may have to purchase a snake and unclog it by opening the trap under your sink.

@Roxanne Alexander Add me to the list. I found this technique years ago, handwritten in the front of a book from the '50s. Have been using it ever since. Works a wonder!

You can plunge a sink but do so carefully. Put your finger over the overflow hole while you plunge or it will not work. Don't use to much force or you can blow your fittings apart.

Shocking to me! Two weeks ago my bathroom sink drain was draining super slow. Got the plunger and so much gunk was pulled up, but still wasn't draining right. Cleaned the gunk up remembered the baking soda and vinegar. Half a box of baking soda and one cup of vinegar. It foamed up and the drain started flowing.

Another effective solution is concentrated bleach (I use the soda/vinegar combo regularly but my plumber recommended the bleach and it really has worked.)

In the bathroom sinks usually the clog is mostly hair. Pour bleach in and let set overnight. Clear drain the next morning.

Soap residue and hair clog the sink (and shower drain) generally. When the baking soda and vinegar solution didn't work in my daughter's shower, I purchased a 'zip-it' drain cleaning tool from Amazon for around $5.00. Depending on how far down the drain the clog is, this might be a solution for you. We also put a hair trap in her shower drain because of her long hair. Also purchased from Amazon for around $9.00 they come in a package of two, so we could take care of both bathrooms economically. Certainly cheaper than a plumber!

Go look it up on Youtube.com. This is where i go for my every "How To". I have fixed my clothes dryer, installed a garbage disposal, fixed my leaky side by side frig, spray painted my bumper, redid my fiber glass shower stall floor. And so mush more. If you can follow directions there is nothing you can't do.

Clean out the drain of hair and soap gunk. After using either Draino or Liquid Plumber, use a liquid soap and be sure to rinse out the suds after washing hands. An occasional swish of vinegar will dissolve soap scum also.
