Never feel bad when you're working on a limited budget, it could turn out to be the best thing ever!!👍 I got these lamps for $6 each and repainted them.
I cleaned them up with just dish detergent and water to get all the dust off and wiped dry with paper towels.
I taped off the brass part I wanted to remain brass so the spray paint wouldn't cover it.
After taping off the brass I sprayed the entire lamp with "Rust-Oleum gloss white paint. A little advice, don't hold your spray can to close and paint in a well lit area.
Waited for each coat of paint to dry and checked for missed or unpainted areas. I purchased a couple of different lamp shades and decided on a round linen shade that added to the updated look.
Added bulbs and lamp shade and decided where I wanted to place them in my living room.
Suggested materials:
  • Rust-oleum gloss white paint, 3m blue painters tape, a sponge, dish detergent and water.   (Paint and tape came from Home Depot,)

Wow, who knew u could spray paint lamps! Did u seal them at all? And, have u noticed if the paint chips or scrapes off easily? Thanks, I work at a Thrift shop & we get a ton of these lamps!

How tall are your lamp shades? Where did you purchase them?

You completely change the tired look of those lamps...very creative. I spray painted a vintage floor lamp for my antique booth. A few areas with raised patterns have brown wax lightly brushed on with a foam brush to match the silk shade and finial from At Home. Hope clicking the pictures will allow full view.

I have done several with matte white paint. Love the transformation—and I just recovered the shade for the first time with fabric that cost $1.00. It was brass—didn’t get a before picture—just loved the shape.

P.S. The lamp was $4.00–1/2 of at GoodWill—with the shade!
