A Little Gear (s)tool Table

1 Material
You know when an idea pops in your head, but you can't quite nail down the details? That's how this little stool table went for while.
I knew I wanted a cool gear look, but I wasn't sure, how I could accomplish it.

But then it hit me, use a round top kitchen stool!

Of course some things I could have done differently, but isn't that the great thing about tutorials, someone else has already worked out the kinks.
It started from this, but it had hunter green legs. I painted them black, with the intention to paint over in white, so that when I distressed it, the black would peek out.
I measured out where I wanted the cogs or teeth to go. Also using a cardboard template to get even teeth.
Use a spade bit and a jigsaw to get the best results. I just went with the jigsaw, and in using just that the turns can be very tricky. I have more tips on the blog.
For the table shelves, I used extra wood planks I had. They are cut to the length of the supports and nailed down.
I made it pretty by staining the top and a couple of the shelf planks. You can see the full tutorial on my blog, along with all of the tools I used.
To answer some of the tool questions: Added picture!

I put any tool that will fit. But you can custom cut the teeth to any size you need. Have fun!
Suggested materials:

I don't know what you would use this for, what tools are the notches for?
  • Linda T Linda T on Apr 10, 2016
Did you cut some of the notches with a view to storing particular tools? If not, why are two different from the others?

When I first saw the notches I thought you were making a wine stand and the notches were for hanging wine glasses.😀
