Open Terrariums and Fairy Gardens

Terrariums are so much fun to make, your imagination is the limit when it comes to these little worlds. Simple material is all you need to get going. For the containers you might want to look at thrift stores, usually you can find them real cheap. You will also need small pebbles, moss, organic soil, plants and little ornaments to create your scene. When visiting my local nursery I have noticed special plants bred especially for fairy gardens and terrariums.
To get started, clean and disinfect your container. I wash mine with soapy water, rinse well and then I will pour boiling water on it and air dry it. Put a layer of pebbles on the bottom followed by a layer of moss. Cover with a good layer of soil. I usually have in mind what kind of scene I want, most likely will include a house. A good and cheap way to get these cute little houses is by looking in your local listings under collectables. The ones I look for are designed by David Winters. Usually I will look for whole collections and you can get them super cheap. Off course you can buy all the accessories at the nursery! I love to make a little brook or pond in my landscape. I add my plants and voila! Mystical, magical little living worlds that will bring a smile to your face every time you look at them. They change in looks as the plants develope.
