What we did this winter..
Our first decision was to put in hard wood floors throughout the house, however, we were going to have to save up for that size of a purchase.
So, we did some lighting, etc. and our floor project turned into a Great Room make over.
Kitchen area - before
Kitchen with two level island. Moss Green and Italian Red accent paint. Laminate flooring (in kitchen/dining only) that looked like light hardwood. Room was very cut up but great for that time.

Counter - before
The first thing we did was to update the dining area lighting. We added in this lovely chandelier we purchased from Amazon.
Updated dining light
We also removed the ceiling fan from the living area and replaced with an even larger chandelier!

Finally, we had saved the money to have the hardwood floors installed. We choose a dark color that is stunning!

Within a few weeks, Denny's Carpet of Cordon, had it installed and it looked great!

Next up, taking the island down to one level for more working room and choosing the right counter tops. Thanks to Fields Custom Cabinets for that work!
Removing old counters
Next, In taking a look around, I knew we had to soften up our wall colors. It was just feeling too harsh.

We choose to go with Porter's 'Turtle Dove' color paint. It is in the grey family but with our furniture, the hue was more green and PERFECT for our space!

As to the counter top, my first choice for a counter top was marble but, of course, I had to do some research.

I found that marble will marr and stain easily. As we do a lot of canning, that wasn't going to be a good option for us. So, we thought long and hard about our options for the counter top. We choose granite as it would be the most durable. This is a Antiqua Silver from Brazil that we found at Signature Countetops in Sellersburg, Indiana - just down the road.

Look how lovely this is!!!

or is it???

LOOOK.. there, hiding under the cabinets and now sticking out like a sore thumb is a white range hood!
Granite Counter Tops
Once I realized we were going to have to change out the range hood, I knew in my heart that I really wanted copper. (in retrospect, I should have gotten a copper sink too). The copper would compliment the granite color and give the room that needed 'punch'.

However, if you have ever researched it - copper is expensive and hard to come by here in Indiana.

I looked online. It seems most places imported their copper hoods from China or Mexico and would take 8-10 weeks to arrive. The prices were outrageous ($8k plus) and in the end, you had no guarantee you would get what you wanted or ordered.

I looked at Lowes and Home Depot. They offered a copper hood, but in a modern look that was not in line with what I wanted.

So, I called and searched and called and searched. I was finally referred to Andy Preske of the Copper Shop in Haubstaudt, Indiana. He promptly answered the phone, listened to my request and said he could help me out- at a very reasonable price. That was on a Wednesday.

On Saturday, I had a custom made copper range hood ready for pick up just an hour away from my house! 4 days.. that is all it took!!!!!

I cannot sing Andy's praises high enough or long enough. If you need copper anything, hit up this shop. They are the BEST! (no, I am not getting paid for any endorsement)

After, we purchased some new, updated decor (mostly at Hobby Lobby) for the Living Room.

Previously, I hadn't taken advantage of this great wall space in the center of my home. It was time for that to change.
Awkward Center Wall
I updated the mantel pieces. However, something was still missing here and that old cd holder was going to have to go.

Also, that little free standing lamp didn't look right..

It took a while, but then I realized that canned ceiling lights would do the trick and help the focal point of the room take shape!
Next up.. New copper hardware for the cabinets (Amazon).

Then, it got really expensive as we purchased a new stove and refrigerator. Since I had always wanted gas, we went ahead and ran a gas line and viola!

I updated the kitchen wall by also painting it the Turtle Dove color and removed all the old art work. I added in some new lighter colors with a bird theme - oranges, greens, yellows.
New cabinet, hardware and backsplash
Updated the cabinet hardware. Added in a new cabinetry and installed a glass mosaic backs plash!
New light fixtures
I added in 3 more eyeball ceiling lights and a super cool fixture from Hangout Lighting (ETSY) to finish it off. I'm sooo happy.. Now, to clean it all back up!

Cherie I saw the $22000 freaked out a little , but then I saw what was done and I was impressed. That's a real deal for all you did to the space... Love it especially the copper!

Looks really great! Just a teeny weeny tip about anyone considering hardwood. My sister chose a dark colour and little did she know that the floor shows dust five minutes after you've cleaned the floor. Barring that, I would choose the dark hardwood as well as its just so beautiful!
