Cindy, I know that I accidently did get mine dried before but it was just because I had put them in the pantry and forgot about them. I don't think that is the proper way, but it worked. I would like to know too, and will check Google when I have time.
Bring them in out of the weather at the end of the growing season, hang in a basement or garage and they should be fine next spring. Since these grow on the ground it is a good Idea to wash the dirt off before so start the drying process.
We used a bird house gourd for one of our fairy house projects a few years ago. Since Our climate is winter most of the year and gardening is not very practical, we bought these gourds online from some Amish farmers in the midwest.
