These are coming up all over my yard and garden. When I pull them up it seems like a popping sound which I am afraid are seeds spreading. I need to use a wrap when pulling up to not spread them, they get these tall spikes on them and I cannot figure out what it is? Any help much appreciated! Thanks, Cyndi
#Plant Identification # invasive plant # tall spikes have seeds
The spikes are laying on side, it is growing with mints I also have growing.
It is the plant with tall skinny spikes I am asking about, mint is in the background.
Again, the tall spikes seem to have seeds that pop off when I pull it up. the other ground cover is mint around a tree stump that is rotting.

I hate these things... I have them over my garden also, I don't know the name of this weed. I have found that you have to pull them out before they flower (before the seeds set) they get tiny little white flowers.

I forget what they're called, but pull 'em quick before the "spikes" mature and pop seeds out all over the place! They will spread like crazy.

I can not see the leaves but I will wager a guess and say that it is Cardamine species possibly Cardamine hirsuta-common name Hairy Bittercress). Remove the seed stalks before the shoot them everywhere:-))

Are these prickly to the touch?

I think it might be Chickweed. Yes, they pop seeds and spread like crazy. Must pull them out before the little white flowers are done blooming. If you catch them then they won't pop and you will be able to pull out easily.

WOW, you all are amazing! Rhonda has it right, I googled her answer and YES! that is it! Thanks to all of you, No it id not prickly to touch and also called Popweed. Thanks so much , I hope we all learned here to GET it out gently! I kept my trash can close to me while pulling it up yesterday and gently tried not to disturb seeds to badly. Google also shows white flowers on them, I just did not connect they were the same too. Thanks to all of you! Clap, Clap, Clap! Smiles, Cyndi

At the first picture I see a plant called diosmos in Greece. It smells very nice and we use to put it in some foods. At the second picture, they look as mint..Do they have any special smell?

I have it in my yard too. It isn't chickweed, but I don't know what it is either.
