Ikea Map Table Hack

To celebrate the return of her son from his world travels, my friend upcycled an old Ikea Hemnes side table into this gorgeous map table for his bedroom. She got the idea from my popular personalized Upcycled Map Chairs post, (click here to see and followed my tutorial.)
You can turn any old table into a map table but this is a good hack of a cheap Ikea table.
What you need: Old side table 1 sheet of wrapping paper with world map on it (such as Cavallini). you should be able to find this on ebay or in good gift shops. Mod Podge or PVA glue, water proof mod podge or a waterproof crystal clear varnish. Paint for the table legs.
1. First clean your table with a damp cloth and then paint the legs in the colour of your choice. We used a stone grey eggshell.
2. Carefully measure out to top of the table. Roll out your Map and cut out the section that you need using these measurements 3. When the paint is fully dried. Cover the table top with a layer of PVA (Mod Podge) glue. 4. Place your cut out map on top of the glue using a ruler or wallpaper roller to squeeze out any bubbles. 5. Paint a layer of PVA (Mod Podge) glue over the top of the map, leave to dry overnight. Cover the table with a final protective layer this time use waterproof PVA glue or varnish. It really is that simple !
I think this table looks so great in my friends sons room that I did one for teenage son and it goes well with my brilliant vintage map suitcase upcycle (Click her to see). You could of course use any map for your table, where you live or a favourite holiday destination. What map would you use ?

Now this is a brilliant idea! I love it! I have to admit I like looking at an entire world map and this is a nice alternative to hanging one on the wall.

Love the table!! How are you able to decopague such a large area without getting any air bubbles or wrinkles. When I've tried this it seems like I always need to lift up my map to basically remove wrinkles then it's ruined.
what am I doing wrong?????
