Varnish look on plant

When I was getting on my porch today I noticed very shiny leaves (not all the leaves) of my nandinal It's about 6 ft tall and this is the first time I've ever come across this, have been growing nandinas for years. It almost looks like someone has sprayed varnish, the plant looks healthy, just strange. Help

Is it sticky? Does it easily rub off?

Hi Douglas, sorry to be so long answering, yes it is sticky, plant looks like it's been spray which it hasn't. Doesn't appear to have hurt the plant, just looks yuucky.

Possibly you have aphids, and the shiny substance is their honeydew?

Hmmm, never have seen any and I have many many nandinas, just never saw this before. Thanks for the suggestion.
