We need to paint our 3 story beach home. Now it is white on white. Roof is dark charcoal color.
Our 2 neighbors are peach and rust. They both have terra~cotta tile roofs.
Any suggestions??

    I love my yellow house, and I have actually read that yellow houses sell faster. You could do yellow with maybe green accents. Would match the landscaping in reverse.

    I would find my favorite color sand and go with it. Bimini Island Pink, Hawaiin Islands Sugar, Volcanic ash, etc. I love finding natural colors for the exterior of a home.

    A quick idea if you can't really decide is to take a piece of carboard and cover it with glue. Take it to the front yard of your beach home and press the cardboard, glue side down, and pick it back up. You will have several colors to choose from that are all natural :-)

    If you want your home to stand out I would go with the green since you mention above that your neighbors have peach and rust colors on their homes. I feel like browns in the same shade category as the peach and rust. Green will make your home pop. Just my suggestion. Good luck :)

    For the beach, light robin's egg blue with bright white trim. It always looks fresh.

    A light smoke color and a slate blue on the railings. That's what I see on my end of the ocean.

    i would go for a yellow sand/jute color - will go wwith the charcoal roof and your neighbours ajoining houses

    anything that is visible for a distance in a beautiful and natural setting such and a hill side or beach should out of respect for nature be done in natural earth tones from the surrounding area... pales blues or pale greens. I recall a developer who built there very large duplexes on a hill side in Kailua Kona Hawaii and then painted them stark white. They where visible for over 15 miles and looked like GRAVE STONES on the hill side. It was so shameful.

    Okay, I cannot suggest a color. It's one of those things that is so personal. I hate yellow myself. But it also depends on your plans. Are you planning on selling in the near future? Do you rent the property? If so there may be color issues that can impact your choice. If you are planning to keep the house for a long time, you may just pick what makes you happy (and coordinates with the roof). Be sure that you don't have to get HOA approval for your choice (or if you do, get their approval).

    natural, beachy colors like sand, driftwood, the sky or waters come to mind with this home...make it a place of serenity to come back to everyday...what colors make you feel happy and comfortable...go with them naturally!

    Grey with a lime green accent door and perhaps under the eves where you enter the front (southern style homes paint under the eves blue, but it would look good lime green with grey there also). what ever you decide have fun doing it! ;)

    A pale, buttery yellow with either bright white or the roof color for trim would be tasteful and yet be different from your neighbors. Pale aqua with bright white or the charcoal trim would also be an excellent choice.

    Early Dawn Grey with a hint of blue, ice white trim, and window boxes full of bright green vines at the higher windows to draw the eyes upward, and darker vines in the bottom window boxes for balance. Whatever color you choose keep in mind to NOT over power the neighbors colors, but rather blend with a personality of your own.

    Sherwin Williams Coastal colors sounds like a good place to start but do not go too dark. You need a lighter color due to fading and yes, every paint will fade! Try blue/greens that look watery with linen colored trim. Always good choices for the beach and not too "out-there" for buyers.

    I agree with others; my first instinct was a soft, creamy yellow with grey (same) shutters, a sky blue (sorta bright) garage and front door and I think I'd tint the cement driveway and door approach with a deeper grey sealer...it's a $100 change that adds a huge effect to the overall appearance. Then everything will look 'finished'. The bedrooms upstairs need updated window coverings, matching. I'd do mini-blinds, just to play on the hard-lines of the house. You could also do a horizontal slat trellis along the front porch, just to tie the horizontal lines together on the different elevations and create another design aspect, again for under $100 total. Love your landscaping!!!

    I personally have found by just watching my neighbors make horrific mistakes....... to stay with light, very pale colors for the body of your house. I had a neighbor paint her house a pink beige that made everyone gag!! Her house is the same size and layout as mine and it looked horrible and very tiny. My poor old paint job came with my house when I purchased. It is a very. very pale yellow with Forrest Green wooden shutters (for show only). I have never liked it, but with time, I have learned to appreciate the pale yellow. And my neighbor ended up repainting her house (rather quickly), the same pale yellow as mine. But left the white windows. Looks great too. I on the other hand have black windows (why they did not do white is beyond me, they are new). But I can stand down the street and look at my house with it's old but good paint job and be house proud and too poor to change it. I also, just after buying it, put a brick color, metal roof on it because there is brick red brick under each window and the sills are brick also. Might sound tacky, but it looks good. By the way, metal roofs ROCK!!! I will see if I can find a picture. My house is so tiny compared to your three story one.

    Drive around some neighborhoods in your area and see if there is a house color or colors that you like. You could use variations of the same colors.

    Something in the coral line since this is a beach property, coral, small accents of turquoise, and garage door beachy rust or beige like the sand.

    I love a sunny yellow house. It wouldn't look right on our Spanish stucco style house, but I painted my chicken coop sunny-side up yellow. However, I've been seeing some upgraded homes in my area painted dark colors like slate gray or chocolate brown, and these are surprisingly appealing.

    If we had terra cotta roofs like both our neighbors, I think blue, teal, aqua, turquoise and yellow would be our choice, HOWEVER!!!' Our roof is slate black. We are going with a deep yellow , celery green, & a rosy-coral for a little POP!! Thanks everyone, love the ideas.

    If you haven't already done the project, head into Sherwin Williams and take a look at some of their new designer brochures. They have a beach collection....and a southwest collection....both worth taking a look at. Always prep properly and use the best materials for a long lasting job. That's how handyANDY does every job...hand wash, SherMax caulk (sherwin williams), zinser 1-2-3 primer & Duration or Emerald exterior paint (sherwin williams again). LUCK!

    HandyAndy, I went looking for inspiration on the Beach colors and did not like them at all. Plus I had trouble with getting the site to work... finally the pictures changed, but then moved on too fast, after several looks I decided I had wasted my time. But I sure agree about the proper prep work.... always do good prep work, always. And I am hoping for a decision on the paint colors soon Marline. I am so impatient. lol
