Laundry room update to maximize storage space

Question

Our laundry 'room' is really just a closet large enough for the washer and dryer.  I managed to fit a broom holder next to the washer, since this house has no place for a broom closet, however it's such a tight space for even that, I know I'll be moving it.  The cupboards above are OK, but they are back so far that I can barely reach the bottom shelf, let alone the top shelf.  I need solutions for reachable storage if left 'as-is'?  We'd like to replace this old pair with new front-loading pair, which I'd either put on a pedestal or stack.  Reachable storage above would still be an issue if they were on a pedestal.  Thanks for any update ideas!

Most cabinets are screwed into the wall. By removing the screws, you can lower the cabinets. Just make sure if you do this, you properly support the new installation. If lowering the cabinets makes using your washer difficult, you shelvecould place the cabinets together over the dryer and put the hanging area above the washer. You could also take the cabinets out completely and put shelving above the W/D and put a flip up clothes hanger on the side wall next to the dryer or put hanging racks on the doors to your laundry (assuming you have doors). You can also get a small folding stool and slide it beside the W/D to help you reach the cabinets.

Try to locate 15' deep cabinets at a rehab store, or build a block out for the existing cabinets. Use 2x4's to make a build out frame, cut them down to a little bit smaller than the cabinets them selves and double up on them, this will bump them out some. Attach the build out frame to the wall then hang the cabinets on the frame. It's not the prettiest solution, since there will be a gap behind the cabinets, but it makes them easier to reach
