I know what it is, its on the tip of my tongue... It's been driving me crazy. It is in the mint family. It has a very calming, relaxing smell. I think you can use it for tea as well.
I agree with Douglas and Linda M. It is a Nepeta (also called catmint).
Post a photo of the flowers and how tall it gets and we can probably tell you the species.
Don't kill it off, this is very good for schettes for your drawers and closets. Also makes very good tea. :) you should look up the medicinal purposes too
definitly NOT sassafras...sassafras is about the size of a childs hand and is 3 fingered shaped ... if it looks like a mint, smells like a mint and tastes like a mint, it probably is...and there are alot of different mints that look similiar.. flowers taste and smell tells the difference
It takes over my garden every year and although I love it and it adds a nice little edge to my tea, I do NOT appreciate the way it spreads. Ive done so many borders to keep it at bay but it seems to allude my efforts. I never heard of catmint but then Im no officianado either. I thought it was spearmint. Thats what it tastes like.
Catnip. I use catnip in a herbal tea. It helps humans and dogs. Honestly I have a combination of herbs I give for Parvo and it has cured at least 10 dogs with in a day of the tea.
It is peppermint. I have it in my garden. It smell really good, It grows into sort of a nice ground cover, but has a bit of height to it. Thick and dense. It doesn't get flowers. But the smell when you are near it is awesome.
Definitely mint; I've got it all over; makes a pretty purple flower. Dead after blooming and it should bloom again. Can be invasive, but grows nicely in poor soil and 'troubled' spots.

Take a leaf and crush it between you finger and thumb. If it smells like Lemon Pledge, it's lemon balm. If it smells like mint, it's mint. both have a square stem and can be itchy when working with them.
It is definately one of the mint family, but they are all so similar without smelling them it's hard to say, but I have Spearmint, Peppermint, catmint and Lemon balm and it's definately not LemonBalm, but it could be any one of the other three....
The smells are very distinct, pinch one of the leaves and rub it between your fingers, then smell it and ask yourself, Peppermint? Spearmint? or Catmint?
I have catnip all over the place. My father drug the cut pieces along the walk, seeds all over. I just keep it trimmed back as my cats love it and for the last 3 years, no fleas or ticks. Found out that strong scents like any mint keeps them at bay and the cats love to roll around in it.
Yep, looks just like catmint. And it is a prolific grower and spreader! I planted it in my catnip garden, but the cats didn't care for it. One year it didn't return, which i was happy for, but there it was the next year.
It's def some kind of mint. We have a whole corner of it in the back side of our shed. I picked some and put it around the house in corners for the spiders we get. Someone said it made the spiders go away. I sure hope so.
If it gets tall stems from the center with spherical stickers on it, it's horehound. What a pain when you have dogs, but you can actually make tea and candy from it. I'm the AZ desert.
Tear the leaf and smell. That should tell u if it is an herb. I.e. Mint. Thyme. Etc. good luck. Ps I have been known to take a plant cutting to a nursery for help😊
Here in Brazil we call this plant Chilean Boldo. If the leaves are fleshy and fragrant it is almost sure it is.

If it blooms, it's verbena. Looks like mine. It will bloom purple or pink. Could be other colors, but haven't seen them.
