A Puzzle of a Gourd

My son was fascinated with the gourd puzzles at the local gourd festival recently. They looked easy enough to make, so I had a go.
His was a treasure map featuring the squirrel from the "Ice Age" movies. I thought the dashed line circumnavigating the gourd would aid him in putting the pieces back together.
I did things a bit backwards in places, but that's because I had to map it all out before I started cutting. )

I burned the path first.
Natural blemishes on the gourd provided great obstacles for the map.
I used colored Sharpie markers to draw the pictures.
All rings cut, and inside sanded.
Inside painted black with a special mix. (see blog for ingredients)
All put together.
Finished rings stacked.
Bug with his puzzle. He loves it!
