Striped Desk in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

This plain desk gets an eye catching makeover with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite and Old White.
I scored this desk for super cheap on Craigslist!
I used 3" wide masking tape to tape off my stripes after I painted the entire desk in Graphite, then I painted between the tape with Old White.
After painting, I lightly sanded the desk with a fine sanding sponge. I used Clear wax seal the paint then buffed it by hand with an old t shirt.
I replaced the original drawer pulls with these Martha Stewart Awning Cup Pulls for a more modern look.

How do you keep the paint from bleeding under the edges of the tape?

So just to be sure, you cleaned the desk, painted the blue first after you taped it or before and then the old white?

Did you sand at all before painting? I have heard that there is no need to sand when using a high quality chalk paint.
