Super Easy Sod Removal

My old method of removing sod used to kill my back. I really wanted to expand my flower beds this year, so luckily a neighbor shared his easy way of taking off the sod that's super quick and easy. Use an edger to cut chunks of dirt, turn the chunk on it's side, and slice the sod off the top. You'll have to break up the soil clumps with a shovel or rototiller before planting, but it's a much easier job with the sod gone!

Another tool to use that helps is a digging fork. Also, in the South where Bermuda grass is prevelent, you must be sure to get ALL the roots or it will grow back in your flower beds. You best bet then is to wear some latex gloves, put some Round Up on a rag and then wipe the blades of grass or stubburn weeds that may grow in the beds.

Wow - @M. G. Knox - that sounds like such a pain! So glad we don't have to deal with that!
