How can I decorate with this tricky window in my son's room?

My son's bedroom has a high, short window. With his bed centered on the wall the window is over the nightstand. Any ideas on how to incorporate that window with decorating over the bed. What window treatment should be used?

Ah yes, we dealt with the same situation. I bought two floor-length curtains to match my son's decor (he's always loved blue), then a matching valance to put on the rod between the two curtains

My sister had windows like this. She built a cornice that looked like a awning and then used narrow vintage shutters on each side. She centered my nephews bed between the shutters. He then used the louvers of the shutters to display things like baseball cards, photos etc.

Good ideas! You could also use an upholstered headboard. The top of it could line up with the top of the window. You would just need to make a roman shade in the same fabric/pattern.

There are a lot of great ideas here but, I like to play to the child's interests whenever possible. I would find a flag from your son's favorite team, or a design that he really likes and hang it in front of the window instead of a curtain. It'll glow during the day and look like a wall hanging at night. You can always hang another flag on the other side of the bed to balance - or a great poster.

Treat the wall as if the window was centered. Hang a curtain rod that goes across the nightstand, the bed, and an equal distance on the other side of the bed. Hang drapery panels on either end, and a roller shade in the middle. No one will know that there is no window behind the roller shade. You can get pictures printed on, or laminated to a roller shade- something that reflects his interests.
