Can anyone tell me were I can get chalk paint at a reasonable price?

I have a mirror that I want to paint gray and a desk I also will like to paint gray with blue.

Your best solution would be to make it yourself.There are numerous post on the diy here on home talk. Narrow your search and you will find others mixtures.

Ace Hardware and Home Depot both sell small "sample size" paints. Easier and better than mixing up your own!

Make your own. You can get a gallon of white flat paint at Walmart for $10.00. Add in some flat black to achieve the gray you want. There are recipes on the net, I prefer using plaster of Paris to make my chalk paint.

Yup...4 tablespoons of dry plaster of Paris to 5 ounces of paint. It drys quicker, so only mix what you need for 15-20 minutes of working time.

You can make your own chalk paint. I make mine with any latex paint and calcium carbonate that I purchased online. I paid $12 for a 10 lb bag. You only need 3-4 tablespoons per quart of paint! I buy the little samples of paint when they're on sale at Ace Hardware for $1.99, mix up in calcium carbonate, and VOILA, I have chalk paint for a fraction of the cost!!!!!

If you are just painting something small, you could go buy a sample can of paint and then make your own. Calcium Carbonate is lime. If you can find finely ground calcium carbonate in the garden section or at a big box hardware store it is fairly cheap. I found a huge bag of it - 25 lbs or more, for $5.00 at Menard's. Or the Plaster of Paris method I have heard is good too. Nice thing about samples, small amount of paint, you can buy various colors, have some left over, mix your own color at home, etc. Possibilities...

Annie Sloan is the best paint out there. Not cheap but it goes really far. The quality of the paint far exceeds anything on the market. It goes on like butter. Homemade chalk paint recipes can't even compare. Definitely worth the extra money. In my opinion!!!

I do love Annie Sloan!! I like to "try" ALL the chalk paints that are available out there, and there are A LOT!! Fusion Paints are also VERY good!! The Fusion Paint seems to go on much smoother, which leaves me with LESS sanding!! I have used a LOT of different paints!! I also like Farmhouse Paints...From Annie Sloan to Vintage Design paints, and everything in between, I think the "type" of paint you use....really depends on your piece!! Just my opinion!! Hope it helps!!

Yes, I would try several methods. I recently used some from JoAnn's on some clearance wooden candle sticks that was an ugly brown wood. Wish I could do a picture but can't.

Wal-Mark has chalk paint made by 'Waverly' in the craft/hobby aisle & I would give it about a 7.5 as compared to AS chalk paint....always stir chalk paint frequently as you paint your projects for nice even color, esp. your homemade versions. Michael's now has several chalk paint brands & I advise against the 'Craft Smart' brand....it is the stinkest paint I have ever opened & I mean like rotten eggs gagging stinky!!!

Make your own. You just use any brand of latex interior paint and add plaster of paris. Mix well and paint. Find the exact measures on-line.

I agree with make your own but plaster of paris dries too fast. Don't use baking soda either. Try ordering some calcium carbonate on Amazon. Mix 1 part calcium carbonate to 2 parts paint. I understand the calcium carbonate is in Tums. LOL Doesn't take a lot of paint either and much cheaper to make.
