I sprinkle cayenne pepper where the dog is digging. I get it from the dollar store, not the grocery store. You need to keep re-applying it until they get the hint! Good luck.

I would prepare the bed slightly...dig around enough so he will notice the change, and then put in a couple of plants...sprinkling down the pepper. Go out there with him so you can see if he gets into it. Take some pepper with you in a saucer. After the dog gets a snoot full of pepper, hold out the saucer to him and say "NO", pointing at the area you have planted. Sit the saucer down and again say "NO". This will teach him that certain places are off limits and digging is not allowed. We confine our dog to a certain area of the yard...it is all hers (looks awful but she loves it) but we are with her when she enters our space where she is not allowed to mess up.

I know this is going to sounds nasty, but if you put some of your dog's own poo in the spot that will keep them from digging there. :)

Try anything in the mint family, most animals are not fond of the strong mint scent. Course, then you have to deal with the mint. Choosing the least of 2 evils.
