Lamp Re-Vamp and DIY Metal Shade

I found a fun lamp while visiting a junk shop in Omaha but it needed a shade. I decided I could make a metal shade myself! I love a bit of an industrial meets farmhouse look so I was on a mission to find just the right materials.

First though, I started by painting the base of the lamp white. I loved the look of the black but am trying to create a more light and airy look in my home. This is why I chose the white paint. I think it turned out nice though.

I purchased a sheet of metal and some embroidery hoops for the shade. I loved the look of this metal and knew it would cast a nice shadow on the wall when the lamp was lit. (I used the plastic hoops because I could not find the wooden kind) I would not recommend the plastic! The paint chipped off really easily. Definitely look for the wooden hoops.

I cut the metal to the size I needed with some tin snips and it was much easier than I thought it would be. It took just a couple of minutes to cut it in half down the center of the 24x36" sheet.

We used some nuts and bolts to hold it all together. There are pics on the blog of the back of the shade. Once we got the first one done the rest went in pretty easily.

I used an Edison bulb and you can see it through the metal. It is so fun and unique. The more I look at it the more I like it.

  Penny thanks so much. I think the pictures are there but I don't remember seeing an email notification. Thanks so much for these. They are very similar. They are super cool. I should make some with my leftover metal. Sorry it took me so long to see them.
