I had the vision of putting photos of my husband and I from our wedding. We've been married 24 yrs next month. Married at the rip age of 17 and 19 yrs old. Our road hasn't been easy (who's is?) and we have danced through many minefields over our lifetime. Which brings me to the lyrics on the mirror. Lyrics from our song, "Dancing in the Minefields" by Andrew Peterson. It's the most beautiful song that describes our ups and downs over the last 24 yrs. No matter what life threw at us, we clung to the promise of forgiveness, grace and unconditional love.
Sooooo now that you understand my heart behind this piece...lets get to the fun part!
It's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The hand carved details are just gorgeous.
While wearing thick heavy duty gloves we put a coat of Jasco Premium Paint & Epoxy Remover on the back of the mirror. Make sure you wear a good Professional Respirator Mask as this stuff is stinky. Let set for 15 mins. Then rinse off and scrub away the paint. We didn't get photos of Step 2 as it required 2 people to work fast on this huge mirror. We sprayed a fine mist of Muriatic Acid on the mirror and focusing mostly on where I wanted to decoupage the images. Rinsing off with water immediately after spraying as it removes the reflective part of the mirror very quickly. Wipe dry and get ready for the best part...decoupaging!
We printed the lyrics and photo onto off white and paper with a design. To give it an old look. Using Modge Podge on the mirror to glue the photo down and something flat to smooth out the bubbles and wrinkles. No need to add Modge Podge over the photo as you don't need a sealer. You will need to decoupage the entire back of the mirror. As you cant tell until its hung where the acid removed the reflective finish.
For the beautiful wood mirror frame all I did was use some Miss Mustard Seed Hemp oil to bring it back to life.

Here it is all finished and hung in our master bath wall of shiplap heaven!
Lyrics to our song are also on the mirror "Dancing on the Minefields".
We add some oak wood to the bottom of the mirror for a shelf.
