My huge squash plants being attacked

They are beautiful, but something is eat or somehow attacking the stems. and the leaf turns yellow and stems get mushy. Help!

It sounds like you may have squash vine borer. Sadly, there is little that can be done once the borer has entered the stem. See more here: http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef314.asp
