Is it for a retrofit or new construction? Depend on the condition of the existing duct-work as well. You can budget between 6-10K per ton and that is close to what it could cost. There is also a 30% fed tax credit available as well to help offset the upfront cost.
  • Geo-Thermal is expensive in most cases unless you have fairly deep pond on the property where they can pull water from. Otherwise your looking at a very large trench job, or one or two wells fairly deep to add to the cost of the system. Most begin around $40,000 and go up from there. However combined with solar electrical system along with a properly air sealed home. You could end up being in a positive cash flow after its all done. Total costs with solar, insulation and system. $80 grand and up.

i have a small home, and had an estimate two years ago. 18 thousand. in missouri. crazy expensive for heat. needless to say not happening here.. its smart, but just too pricey for me.
  • That is a good price for Geo-thermal. You need to remember that your really paying a lot over time. Much more then the cost of the system. With rebates and special tax offers, the cost should go down quite a lot. In NJ there are rebates up to 50% if the energy efficiency of the house meets their standards.
