How do I get rid of grasshoppers?

Question

Every summer around this time I notice small light green grasshoppers jumping around/away when I water my plants (hostas,flowers etc. NOT vegetable or fruit plants).  After awhile these grasshoppers get bigger and bigger.  Probably because they are eating my plants.  How do I get rid of them and keep them from eating my plants?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I didn't take any pics.

At least yours are small, Kim. In Florida we have these nasty lubbers that are the size of small helicopter. But it is the season for them, no matter what the size. You'll find some suggestions in this thread: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/q-help-grasshoppers-in-biblical-proportions-1633109

Thanks for the info Douglas. I will try sprinkling flour to see what happens. At least it does not harm the plants.

aaaawwwww.....grasshoppers are one of the few insects i luv!!!! send them to me.....the little green ones are the babies.....i don't know if they actually do any good, but they sure are cute...when my grand children were small, they used to run around my yard trying to catch them....lol...the other insect i truly luv is a lady bug...if you have an abundance of them and they are 'bugging' you, you can send me those too!!!!! :::::::)))))))))))
