we use a new sponge mop, just a cheaper one, so that after you use it you can toss it.....

The best and easiest way I found is to use a 1-2 gal. sprayer from the homedepot for 12$, see: http://www.homedepot.com/p/HomeRight-Deck-Pro-1-gal-Sprayer-C800909-M/204351177

Only thing I use! Just don't let the stain puddle. I also keep a 4" brush to even out the stain. Aged decking will absorb the stain differently. I usually put to coats on for even coverage.

Coolest tool for this is stain pad that has a tongue that comes down for in between boards. Put up when loading and applying stain..tongue down to spread and finish!

Yes! If it seems uneven, buy a roller with a thick nap.
