Library Table is on It's Way to a Dogwood Art Piece....

My sister found this great library table on a local Facebook Flea market for a steal at $15! It's a nice solid table that she knew I could do my magic to make it pretty.
I used my Citristrip, but this time I tried a method with Saran Wrap. Well, I don't know if I didn't wait long enough or if I just don't like this method. Citristrip is easy enough to use just as the directions say, so I think I will scrap the Saran Wrap next time!
At any rate, I got the table top stripped and stared at it some more, but it just wasn't speaking to me what she wanted to become. I played around with many images for the top and finally came up with this Dogwood image I designed. It was difficult to come up with a design for this due to the size (20" x52")... not easy to find an image that long and narrow.
But I still couldn't come up with the whole design! It was driving me nuts! Paint or leave wood and do the staining technique?? I knew if I was going to paint it, I would be using my new favorite, Velvet Finishes paints (if you want more info on the paints, copy and paste the link on the picture below!) But, I just couldn't figure out the colors, or if it should stay wood?!?

So, I asked my friend Tammy, from TheTatteredRabbit.com. {Check her out! ~ if you haven't seen any of her work yet, you need to see her beautiful refurbished pieces!} She was so kind to give me some FABULOUS ideas!!! I'm not going to give too much away, but we decided on paint! She was able to see all the little detail areas that will make it POP!. So at this point, I decided to just prepare the rest of the piece for paint without stripping, just sanding and cleaning.
I ordered the paints I need from Velvet Finishes... and now she waits for them to arrive!

Stay tuned for the final reveal and lets hope she turns out as pretty as I am imagining (with Tammy's help!)

  • Thanks for the shout out and it was my pleasure to help! I know whatever you decide to do (leaving it stained as is or painting) it will be a show stopper because of the image you do on top. I can't wait to see the pretty dogwood flowers and hopefully you'll do a little video demonstration along the way. Hint. Hint. Good luck with it my friend!
