Remove mildew smell from photos

I had stored my photo albums and photos in totes in my basement several years ago. I recently opened them and there is a mildew smell although no visual mildew. What can I do to remove the odor?

I once read that to remove mildew odor from books place them in a zip-lock bag and put in the freezer for a month or two.

Place the photos in a paper bag and then put that bag in a plastic tote box with kitty litter in it. Close it up. The kitty litter should absorb the odor.

The kitty litter works for books. I used a cardboard box big enough to fit the books loosely and poured kitty litter around them.

I wad up newspapers and place them in a tote with a tight cover, then place the photos (which I put in a paper bag also). This will also work for plastic containers which have absorbed odors.
