Ordered this "cherry hedge" from an online source. This arrived today. Looks nothing like the picture on their website. Truly disappointed!

    Well, aside from the fact that it looks DEAD, it looks like some kind of ivy??

    It is in horrible condition! They put it in a box that was way to small and just bent the plants to fit. One broke off at half point. I am so contacting their customer service! But want to see if anyone can tell me what it is first. Does look a bit like ivy!

    I wouldn't accept this. Return for a full refund. It looks burnt, dried out and dead.

    Sent them an email. Let's see what their response is. Funny thing, now I can't access their website! Service is unavailable! In their FAQ's they say all plants are sent bare root and should be put in water. Although I did not expect to receive fully grown plants I did expect them to look a little bit like their pictures.

    Me too, I will never order from MichiganBulb again. But like a fool I couldn't resist these cherry hedges so I did it again! You always take a chance when you order online but you would think that these companies would treat you right, since it is their livelyhood and word of mouth travels far and fast, especially in these times with all the online venues that we have available.

    Before I order anything for the garden through mail order I always check the company out at Davesgarden.com. If you click on products and sources you will see a prompt for Garden Watch Dog. There is a long list of reviews by readers of their experiences with different mail order sources. This has saved me a lot of headaches and I have found some very reliable sources.

    I have a really nice local nursery where I find the best plants and free plant ideas/help. Their plants are so superior to the Big Box places, too. I, too, was foolish to buy from MichiganBulb. Never again. Pictures are beautiful and plants pathetic.

    OMG! I too ordered plants frome Michagan bulb about 8 years ago, Three of the shrubs did not even attempt to grow. I contacted them FOUR times about the "free" replacement. Never EVER heard a word from them!! I swore then I would never order from them again and I haven't. I buy all my plants locally. As for your picture, it Looks a little like Grape Ivy.

    Oh yeah, I wrote them and asked for a refund. Or ship me new plants. I told them I planned on being a repeat customer if they would handle the situation properly. And they never responded.

    The only place I wil ordr plants from is Cottage Farms. They are wonderful and guarantee their plants for a year. I ordered 4 plant package 2 years ago and one of the 4 died. I e-mailed them and they mailed me 2 more plants without any questions or a penny cost to me.

    I've never heard good things about Michigan Bulbs. I have ordered roses from Jackson Perkins and they were great. No problems at all. I've shipped clematis to a customer from our nursery and they arrived safe and sound. You have to know what you're doing when you ship plants.

    I have learned the hard way that it is best to buy from your local greenhouse. I have never been happy with any mail order plants and I have tried several companies. They do not stand behind their products and in some of my cases they have attempted to convince me that it was my fault that their plant was dead when it arrived. Buy local and save yourself the headaches!

    I was very pleased with Bluestone Perennials this year. They have changed their packaging and the plants were larger than I expected and very healthy. Dave's Garden website is a good resource for many things. Don't give up on all mail order. I shop local nurseries, but for something a little different, mail order is good.

    I ordered from cottage farms, did not have as good as luck as Pam, the first plants didn't even grow the first year. They did send replacements, same luck. Never tried after that since it says the only replace the 1st time. I have had great luck with spring hill mail order. The plants sometimes come in rough, but they send me replacements right away. Not as rough as the ones pictured above. They have a really good guarantee.

    If you paid by credit card, file a dispute. The credit card company will get your money back from them and they have to state their case as to why they are entitled to payment. Attach the pics to the dispute. This happened to me with an online nursery. Sent me sticks and balls of roots. I got a full refund after filing the dispute.

    I just ordered a Giant Blueberry from Michigan Bulb, and also am very disappointed. I sent them an email as well but got no response. Also, about five other plants I ordered are in pretty bad shape as well. I was thinking maybe they will perk up, not so far.
  • Definitely, if you paid by credit card, be sure to dispute the bill (you may do so within 60 days of the date of invoice with the charge, so don't delay). You'll have to provide them with information which usually includes providing a copy of your complaint to the seller, etc.

    I have also ordered from Cottage farms, This year it was reblooming daylillies, minature roses (lavendar and golden) and the golden roses (6 plants each) had blooms on them when they arrived.....

    Ordered what I thought were bushes and hedges from Gardeners Collection. When I opened the box, the plants?? appeared to be dead. They were all packed in one small box. They charged me $165.28!!!!!!!!!! I called the company and returned these so called plants. HORRIBLE!!!!!!

    I too have heard from others their bad experiences with Michigan Bulb. I would never order from them. In Michigan, I have ordered from Great Garden Plants (greatgardenplants.com) and everthing was exceptionally packed and healthy and of good size. You get to pick the date you want your plants delivered. Their shipping is a little high, but definitely worth it, especially for perennials that are going to last you for years. The customer service is excellent. I have also ordered from Burpee and also had a good experience with them, but the plants are very small but packed nicely. I did get free shipping after I signed up for their e-mail newsletters. (Burpee).

    I am in the nursery biz and situations like this just tarnish all the good mail order and retail outfits out there. It is a little late in the season to be planting bare root in your area. However, it isn't that difficult to ship properly with moist packing to keep the plants viable. Good mail order firms do that. You may pay a little more but they also stand behind their product as many others have stated. Also, it don't know what type of cherry hedge you were expecting but these plants have opposite buds. Cherry (Prunus species) have alternate buds.

    If you check your catalogs and online order forms you will see that they state that you will get bare root/dormant plants approximately 2-3 feet tall. The only time I have ever had a problem with any plants I ordered on line is when I never got them planted in a timely manner.

    I ordered Cherry Hedges a few years back and I don't know if different varieties of cherry hedges have different leaves but my leaves look nothing like those. Those almost look like a tree or grape vine or something. My cherry hedge leaves are skinny & long almost like locust tree leaves. Mine look more like the pic you posted from the link.

    I ordered from a sale on hummingbird vines (was very misleading) it was suppose to be 4 for $10.00 and only $5.00 SH, the order ended up being $43.00 and that was 9 weeks ago and still no plants???????????

    Online gardening sites have disappointed me repeatedly. Last year I bought $40 worth of their grab bags and they sent me stuff that would only grow in Florida. Since I live in Michigan I pretty much decided it was a $40 stupid tax and just toss their catalogs into the trash on the way back from the mailbox.

    I just bought plants from an ebay seller that had outstanding ratings. The plants arrived today & are far better then I expected. These plants are pond plants.

    That is sad, You did get ripped. I sell plants and cuttings on ebay. I would never send anything in that shape. Always been happy with the plants I have bought off ebay. Hope you can get your money back.

    BECAUSE I AM HOME BOUND A LOT, THIS YEAR I PAID CONSIDERABLE MONEY ON LINE, STUPID ME THOUGHT I WAS GETTING ''PLANTS''--NOT BARE ROOT! NOW I SEE ALL THE BEAUTIFUL, FLOWERING PLANTS OUT THERE FOR LESS! I HAVE TO WAIT & SEE IF MINE WILL EVEN GROW AFTER ALL THE PLANTING I DID!! NOT NEXT YEAR!

    I stopped ordering plants by mail for just this kind of problem. Spindly little weak plants that never survive. I only order bulbs and tubers through the mail now.

    They look more dead than dormant. Plant them and see, it won't take much effort anyway. Dispute the charges, you should get your money back.

    I don't know if this will make a difference but I have ordered "beautiful red maple trees" with descriptions I would have a lage tree soon. GREAT! I received 6 bare, thought were dead STICKS in an ENVELOPE. They are the most beautiful red maple you have every seen. I just stuck them in the GROUND, not pot and now They are HUGE, so these little things we get in the mail will look nothing like what our plant, tree, etc will even begin to look like. Try it, got nothing to loose, except a beautiful hedge.

    Cheri N, I ordered from Gardeners' Collection. I have put them in water while waiting for a response. Karen W. I don't think they sent me the right thing that is my problem, not the size of what they sent. The leaves on their pictures were elongated not ivylike. I don't mind waiting for them to grow, I just want to make sure I don't waste my time waiting for a hedge of cherries to grow and get some unwanted plant. I also ordered 2 crepe myrtles that came bare root and now I'm wondering if they are indeed crepe myrtles.

    Cheryl R. what company did you order from? That's what the leaves looked like in the photo, elongated. Good think they left a few leaves on the plants they sent me or I would have to wait months to find out they sent me the wrong thing.

    Hey Carol, notice you are from East Bridgewater, MA. I just moved down here to VA last November from Brockton, MA. I have a son who lives in East Bridgewater. I love it here, the weather has been great but I miss my family. Just wanted to say HI from a former Masshole, as people like to call us!

    I hope they are not dead.Now remember some companies will send plants that are sent in dormant stage.Take off any leaves put in water for a couple days and then plant.Happy Planting.

    Hi Eulalia!!! LOL regarding being a Masshole!!!!! I lived in Whitman for 38 yrs. until my hubbie died. Took care of all of my family members until they passed. I was left a great 3 family down across from Castle Island. When I saw your post that had your location as South Boston,I thought it was in Massachusetts. That's where i grew up. I'm glad that you are happy in your new location. All of my kids and grandkids are in Whitman,Pembroke,and Abington.East Bridgewater is great and our winter was very mild.

    There were no instructions per se, just sunny area. I had three sundrops die ot of six, and the GIANT blueberry is just a twig that died as well. This order consisted of seven plants total and four are dead. Even though they are going to send me replacements I will no longer order from them as the size of their plants are not worth the money I have spent once you include shipping and handling. Not the first time this has happened but it will be the last.

    I never used mail order, but kept getting the catalogs with the fantastic photos and got sucked in!! Got crap for my money, a continual run around, double talk, found out that all the different catalogs come from the same place!!! They just use different names so if you've been burned by one, you may try another. I noticed same phone #'s, address, etc. and called them on it and they admited it!! Especially when I said if they didn't return my money I'd go to another company and the guy said go ahead, it's all the same!! and laughed!!! I'll never tyr it again, and will go to my local nursery, pay a little more, get it the day I pay for it and know what condition it is in when I pay for it. Just my experience!

    Wayside garden's is one that I have used and I am very pleased with them. I bought a Red Price Weigelia last fall and it is absolutley beautiful right now. I would recommend them highly.

    This is a bare root plant and should be soaked 3 to six hours before planting, and should be planted as soon as you receive it. If you have allowed it to dry out...you are out of luck.. Most dry root plants should be planted in early spring. They must have stated that it would be a dormant bare root plant in the description and instructions to plant should have been included with your plant's arrival.

    I buy a lot of my plants on e-bay, and pay with paypal. Paypal protects you in these instances...I have never gotten a bad plant yet.

    I recieved my replacement giant blueberry today, it does look better then the first one but by far is not stelar. I will probably not do any more business with them, it has happened too many times and I just never really complained before. I am speaking of Michigan Bulb by the way. I will do my business locally from now on.

    If you plan of ordering online use this site http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/ You do not have to be a member to use this. If you do not see the nursery, you can type it in the box. Loaded with comments from fellow gardeners and the nurseries do pay attention. I had a bad experience with Burpee( boy, was that a surprise, I've been doing business with them for years) and could not get satisfaction, until I posted a negative review in the Garden Watchdog. I got both a phone call, email and credit for my purchase within one day.

    This looks like a maple because the leaves are opposite each other on the twig.

    I'm from Sydney (Australia) and without being flippant, the poor little plant looks like it has some disease. Looks like it might not have had enough water, or perhaps before delivery was left in an undesirable spot. How long did it take from your order, to delivery? Maybe, as I've done many times, when a plant looks like it's on its last 'legs' I give it a good trim, water and fertilizer. I guess your best bet, would be to get in touch with your local nursery, and take a photo with you. Just in case the plant has a disease that is easily transmitted to healthy plants. Good luck.

    I have them! And yes they looked like that lol they grow very fast! I have beautiful cherry blossoms for my Easter table but not many cherries. Beautiful light green foliage most of the year. They make a great coverage/obscured view of the tacky neighbors taste! Lol
