An Easy DIY Front Door Update

In the process of updating the front door and porch of our latest flip home, it occurred to me that the new door just needed to be beefed up a bit. But, with little to no budget remaining, I had to get creative. This is how I used three basic boards, some caulk and some paint to easily Update this Front Door.
This is how this home and front porch/door looked BEFORE.
The porch railings and spindles were just too much. It was too busy and looked closed in. We removed the spindles and railings and left just the posts. Then, we added a new front door.
But, that wasn't quite enough. So off I go to the leftover wood pile and found two boards that would work - 2x boards. I had to purchase a 3rd board.
I did not take pictures of the "during"process, but this graphic will explain how and what I did. Honestly it was so easy... cut the boards to the proper length, nail them right up next to the existing trim, caulk and paint. So, so easy. And this is the result...
Quite a difference huh? I spray painted the original, rusted house numbers and replaced them back at the top of the door.
