How to Transform a Curbside Rescue From Plain to Insane!

2 Materials
I have had this not so pretty dresser in the boys room as it sits in this photo for about 2 years. A neighbor down the road was setting it out on the curb for trash one afternoon and I just knew I had to scoop it up. He was even nice enough to toss it in his truck and drive it down the road to our front door. He did tell me they had every intention to refinish it, just didn't have the time to do so. Luckily for me, I also didn't have time to get it finished.. Until now that is.
It sat in the boys room for extra storage for almost 2 years. When we moved into the new house, this curbside rescue was on the top of my project list.
Preparing for this months Fab Furniture Flippin' contest I already knew which piece I wanted to work on if I was selected before the contest was even announced. When the theme “Bling Bling” was announced I had to put my brain to work, since the piece I wanted to refinish was a boys dresser. Bling Bling and teenage boys don’t exactly go together, but I think I managed to pull it off. Here is how I took this curbside rescue from plain to insane!
After changing my mind a few times, I decided to give the dresser a coat of thick black paint before using the Country Chic Metallic Cream over the whole thing. One coat of black and one coat of the metallic cream.
Drawer fronts were also covered in metalic cream and accented on the inside with Country Chic All In One "Bliss"
Just look at that shine!! Doesn't that just scream sleek and manly!?
The metallic cream paint went on like a dream. It is not regular paint, so it is a bit thicker than I am use to using. It went on smooth right over the black base coat.
For some fun color and to make it a bit more boyish, I added fun stripes along just one side. A thicker stripe in the "Bliss" blue and a thinner stripe of basic white I had left over from another project.
