Unicorn Spit is a Gel stain, paint and glaze all in one. It can be used on wood, metal, glass, plastic, cement, fabric and probably more! When I'm feeling stressed, I turn to my crafts for some stress relief. I had so much fun today! I SPiT inside these 3 vases!
Stress Relief! 3 vases SPiT on the inside.
The first step, which I always do ahead and keep some vases ready for my next urge to create, is to coat them with Mod Podge so the Unicorn SPiT will have something to stick too. I used a sponge brush to paint these with Mod Podge on the inside. I always let the Mod Podge step dry overnight.
Goodwill vase ready for Mod Podge
Once the Mod Podge is dry it's time for the hard part -- Picking the colors! I used blues, purple, a little green and some red today. There are 14 Unicorn Spit colors to chose from at this time. And new Shimmer Spit coming out soon!
Diluting my colors
For this project, I diluted my colors 50% water, 50% Unicorn SPiT (it can be diluted up to 70%). I squirt the SPiT into a small 2 oz. Bottle (can get from Walmart, Michael's, etc) and added an equal amount of water. Then I shook it up to mix the water and Unicorn SPiT.
Dripping in first colors
I continued to add a little color at a time, Letting it drip down the sides of the vase.
Keep adding color
I slowly added more color and turned, swirled and rolled the vase in my hands. It was so relaxing just to watch the colors move about and create their own paths and their own design! This is the stress relieving part!
Letting it drip back to the top
I turned it upside down in a foil pie tin to let it drip back to the top of the vase and decided it was just too dark. So.....
Lightened up with "White Ning"
I dripped in "White Ning" and swirled, rolled and turned in all directions some more! I also turned the vase upside down again and let the excess drip down the sides and into the pie tin.
White added, coming together
Finally. it was coming together and I was liking the results (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!) I could tell, I had a lot of SPit in the vase now and that it wasn't going to dry quickly. I also wanted to keep the look I had going and not have it keep changing while the SPiT was wet. What to do?
Bake in 200 degree Oven 5 to 8 minutes
I baked it! Yes. I put the vase on its side in my cold over, with a pan under it, just in case. I set the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and the timer to 5 minutes. I got nervous after about 3 minutes and turned the vase 180 degrees. Set the timer for 5 minutes again and left it alone this time.
Krylon ColorMaster Clear Gloss to Seal SPiT
When it came out of the oven I loved it! I let it cool and sit until I was sure it was completely dry. Then I sprayed the inside of the vase with several coats of Krylon ColorMaster Clear Gloss. I am only going to use artificial flowers in my vase so I wasn't worried about it being completely water resistant, just sealed very well.
And here is the vase with artificial flowers on the mantel. The colors moved more when I put the vase in the oven to dry. I love that this vase decided what IT wanted to look like. It is different every way you turn it. Happy Stress Relief Saturday! Happy SPiTting!
