In my neighborhood 6' tall cedar "dog ear" pickets run about $1.70 ea. So your lineal foot cost of just these would be $3.40. add in horizontal members, posts concrete and labor and this can get you into 12 to 15 per foot. If you choose a fancy design these prices can exceed $40 a foot or more http://fenceworkshop.com/wood-privacy-fencing/
  • Standard picket fence run around $30 for fence section eight foot long, plus $15 for two post, Plus $5 for cement. Then the cost of labor digging holes, delivery, Expect to pay around $50 to $100 per section installed labor only. Price goes down on labor the more you install.

I just saw a post earlier from "James R Hahn Productions" that used plywood and cut it out in the shapes of plants, painted it and put it up. That would be very cheap and artisitc at the same time if you are artistic???

Thanks, Jan but I am not artistic. I wish I was.
  • The only issue with plywood cutouts is warping. Plywood if not perfectly sealed with paint will bow with age as moisture gets between the plys of wood. For very small controllable conditions it would work, but for much larger areas it would be a difficult task to keep the wood from bowing over and failing.

I used pre-made wood panels, with lattice on top, to get my privacy fence in my small courtyard garden. We used the spikes for staking the panels and after 16 years, all is still good. Panels vary in size and price. If your husband is handy, he could make a jig and make panels himself.
