Every house has them, but they are so ugly! Any ideas to disguise, cover, or give new life to ugly old window wells. The paintings look so nice then, ugh there's THAT thing.

There sell Window Well covers at Home Improvements stores. Then depending where they are on your property you can always pot in portable gardens surrounding the areas.

I planted flowers and fern by my window well and we put a mesh screen over the opening to keep bunnies and other baby animals from falling in. I don't use the traditional window well bubble as I feel it brings added attention to the area and also blocks natural light from getting in my basement

Build a planter with landscaping pavers on one or both sides of the window well to pull the eye up toward the planters and away from the window well. Additional matching paver stones can be used to line the window well and direct the eye to the planters, pulling the window well into the landscaping design. An ugly window well and a renter downstairs created a solution for a house here. The owner dug out the soil around the window well, put in concrete steps and sides, installed a door with a lock and key and gave the renter his own ingress and egress to his rented downstairs room.

Frosted privacy-type Contact paper on the inside of the glass and BIG hostas or ferns around the well, maybe a few big natural-looking stones, moss, should actually look nice! Landscaping fabric with gravels on top will help to prevent plants coming up IN the well, and help keep the glass cleaner.
