$5 Garage Sale Bistro Set Gets a Makeover With Milk Paint

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get your backyard ready for summer fun! Here's how I transformed a $5 garage sale bistro set with milk paint. It's now ready for any party!
After a good cleaning with TSP Substitute, I needed to decide which paint to use and what color would bring this beauty back to life.
I wanted to keep the wrought iron black, but didn't want the extra work of taping it off, so spray paint wasn't an option. With the wood being completely raw, I knew milk paint would adhere really well ....plus I like painting with milk paint ... it's so easy!
I chose a bright red milk paint to add a bit of color to the sea of green, which is our backyard.
True milk paint comes in a powder form, and it's a good idea to let it rest for about 15 minutes after mixing it up. The bistro set was painted with a brush, and I just kept a wet rag handy in case I got any paint on the wrought iron.
We use this set for additional seating at our backyard fire pit, but one of the best thing about bistro sets is their portability.
How sweet would this set look on a back deck or patio? Even though I gave the bistro set two coats of a water based poly acrylic top coat, I don't leave it outside 24/7 ... I want it to be around for many summers to come!
