Rubber Bands Make Great Jar Openers

There are all sorts of gadgets out there that help to open stuck on jar lids. (My favorite one is my husband's strong hands! LOL)
This idea Easy DIY Jar Opener idea could not be more simple. Just use a rubber band. What could be simpler or less expensive?
If your jar lid is stuck, wrap a rubber band around the lid and give it another twist. The rubber band gives the top of the jar and the lid some extra friction and makes opening the jar as easy as can be.

I use a butter knife and insert the tip into the lid's edge and when I hear a "pop" I know the seal is broken and the jar opens with little effort.

Don't use a knife. Instead, use an old fashioned 'church key'...a bottle opener. Use the point in several places on the lid until you hear the vacuum broken. Do be careful not to pierce the metal of the lid or your hand can be cut. If by chance you do pierce the metal lid, hammer the pointed portion flat or until it no longer protrudes. Another way is, if you have a cook stove with flames, place the bottle upside down on the burner and carefully heat the lid slightly...the heat makes the metal expand and the jar opens easily. Protect your hand if the lid is too warm.
