Find your inner sculptor with these cute little polymer clay produce magnets. Using your choice of fruits and vegetables you can add a fresh touch to any refrigerator.
SUPPLIES:

-Polymer Clay (I used white and added color and painted, but you can get the appropriate colors for your chosen fruits + veggies)

-Acrylic Paints

-Magnets

-Hot Glue
STEP 1: Cut your polymer clay into the sizes you will need for your various fruit + veggie shapes.
STEP 2: Mix acrylic paints into your polymer clay creating the colors you will need for your chosen produce. Some paints are too thin and will not allow for the correct consistency. If this occurs simply leave your polymer clay white and you can paint it pre-setting.
STEP 3: Mold various fruit and vegetable shapes with your polymer clay.
STEP 4: Add textures to your leaves and fruit. A toothpick is a good tool for this.
STEP 5: If you wish to have some hanging fruit or veggies you can simply cut a small piece of floral wire and stick it into the clay piece. Then take a small ball of clay and press it over the end of the wires onto the back of the leaves to attach it.
STEP 6: Bake your clay pieces in the oven for about 20 minutes. Your polymer package should say what temperature to bake your clay at. The polymer I used suggested 275 degrees. Once your polymer clay is baked set it aside and allow it to cool.
STEP 7: Paint your fruits and vegetables that don't have color and add any accent details you wish to those that do. Or leave them in white for a nice clean look!
STEP 8: Use your hot glue to attach the magnets to each piece of clay.
Now they are ready for your refrigerator!

Cute idea but I don't understand how this project cost $3.00. Is it because you already have the materials on hand? And how much would it cost if one had to go out and buy all the materials?

A good way to make sure the "hanging" fruit don't fall , is to keep the wire stems from sliding out of the baked polymer clay, by put a bit of super glue or hot glue the wire where it meets the clay. Super glue can be used before or after you back your fruits and veggies. Hot glue can not be baked as it will meltans run out of place.
