Painted Sideboard

Porta Verde Studio
by Porta Verde Studio
I bought this sideboard with the ugliest rolled on paint finish in semi-gloss. I did not want to strip it so I turned to oil paint to try to fix it. I sanded it out, gave it 3 coats of oil to "fill in" the texture, fine-sanded it again and gave it one more coat of oil in satin. The I distressed it and polished the hardware. I found this was a good alternative to stripping but was just as much work. The difference is that I got a beautiful smooth finish. I still paint and refinish all my furniture with oil products. Benjamin Moore still sells the Impervo line of oil paints. Do you like the end result and oes anyone else use oil paint anymore?

I love painting with oil paint too. The finish can't be beat if you like it smooth as glass :) Your work on this piece is beautiful!

@Porta Verde Studio Me too. I finally buckled and bought some chalk paint for my dining room set, but I still washed, sanded and prepped before painting :)
