Re-Purposed Vintage Chicken Feeder

A couple years ago, Dean and I were in Fort Myers, Florida for Dean’s baseball tournament and while we were there for a few days we made the best of our time visiting our friends and looking for architectural salvage. One of the places that we visited was a lady’s home that she opened up to the public and you could walk through each room where she had several pieces of vintage furniture and re-purposed items for sale. I wish I could remember her name to give her full credit because what we saw on her dining room farm table that day inspired us for two whole years. She had a galvanized vintage chicken feeder that she re-purposed.
I thought the idea was ingenious and ever since then we have been searching for a galvanized vintage chicken feeder to re-purpose. We finally found one just a few weeks ago!
It was in mint condition. I'm sure I could have bought something like this on Ebay or Amazon but that takes all the fun out of the hunt for vintage finds. It's also good to look something like this over in person with it being so old.
Here it is in all it's glory on our rustic farm table. I was a bit concerned that it was going to be too long for our 7 foot and 2 inch farm table but we got it home and it was a perfect fit. The chicken feeder measured 6 feet exactly. This was one time we didn’t measure anything and just crossed our fingers that it would be a good fit. Dean was pretty confident that it would be okay but once we got it home I felt relieved that it looked great on the table. It was a perfect mix of our rustic wood + galvanized metal design style.

Be sure to click on our link below to see exactly how we re-purposed it. It is definitely a conversation piece yet provides such functionality in our home. We absolutely love our new vintage find.

Thank you! Being from the Midwest we saw these all the time but I never in a million years would have thought I would put one on my dining room table. Still loving the look and functionality of it.
