DIY Crate Bookshelf

4 Materials
Im not very creative with cooking - in fact my cooking skills are pretty much non existent. I do happen to have a few cookbooks stored away in our spare room - but they never get used. It was time to change that. I had the idea that maybe having my cookbooks on display might actually encourage me to use them once in a while? Maybe
So - I decided to make a shelf specifically for my cook books. I did this using an old crate and some rope. Its really easy and simple to do - and I think it looks great in my kitchen
This was the crates I used. I sawed it in half to decrease the depth of the crate and then I sanded with my mouse sander
I then stained with walnut stain and left to dry overnight.
I drilled two holes to each side of the crate then threaded through the rope. It was stuck in place with liquid nails glue (Love this stuff.. its super strong! I used it before to attach wheels to my sons DIY underbed toy box
I covered the end of the rope with screw caps (I particularly love these caps you can find out where I bought them from my blog at link below)

Voila it really is that simple! It was then placed on the wall. This book shelf was created as part of a diy challenge I participated in - our readers voted that they wanted us to make something out of rope this month . If you would like to see what the other bloggers made using rope click HERE.
