Old furniture new look?

What is the best kind of paint to use for wood furniture? Should I sand it down first? I've seen spray paint rustoleum I want to take it from brown to white.

You can use a wide variety...from oil based spray enamels to brush on Chalk paints. As with any paint job good prep results in good results. In the few time I have painted pieces I have used an eggshell latex and a small detail roller...this prevents brush marks. Sanding and primer will normally give better results.
