Oh I love the color and wood and are those large windows?. Modern or? 2 place to look at ideas. You have good taste so far with this image. http://www.houzz.com/photos/modern/living/query/world-traveler https://www.pinterest.com/explore/world-travel-decor/ Personally I like the world traveler modern look. This style lends to change. You can add basics stye furniture and change the accessory from old to modern. And if you like formal or casual it lends very nice to both. Start with solid color sofa and subtle pattern chairs. You can add texture and color in pillows and accessories. Shelf's or art work? What are your other interest add that to the wall it will start the hunt for the best stuff. I would first pick a second color to start and then look at furniture. Hope this helps Teresa

First, always check thru magazines to see what catches ur eye, but I would go with color and comfort pieces. You wont be disappointed They always say 1 red piece-it doesn't need to be a sofa, & a black one for strength. These have aways worked for me. I did my living room using a Furniture Room Store's graphing with the furniture lay out=worked to a T!

The first thing you need to do is decide how you are going to use the space. TV watching? visiting with guests? listening to music? Do you need extra sleeping space which might dictate a sofa bed? Do you eat in front of the television where a coffee table that lifts up to become a dining table would be helpful? Then make a room plan to scale that includes doors, windows, electrical outlets and overhead lighting, if any. Make furniture pieces to scale with paper and move them around until you get a look and function that works for you. Only after that, do you look at pictures you have collected of looks you like . Then make yourself a mood board with the pics of furniture, samples of flooring, paint swatches, fabrics etc. Now go out and find furniture pieces that fit your space and your needs. You haven't given us a full pic of your room so we can't be any more specific than that.

What colours do you like? What colours do you wear, those will be the most enjoyable for you. Are you minimalist ,neat and tidy, hate when somethings out of place? Or do you love glamor, comfort, bright and shiny things, colour? Or something else? Need a little more info,on your likes and a little more on the room, what's across from that wall? Doesn't look like it has electric outlets, the wall needs some kind of large art, painting,a couple large photo art,or cool wall sculpture,or if the other side of room will reflect well in a large ornate mirror. Lots of options for furniture placement, from that one photo, do you have children, pets that may determine what furniture you get. The room itself would look lovely with a sleek mid century style sofa in a light neutral, where you can have gorgeous Jewel toned pillows, almost any kind of coffee table pairs well with it. Or a white leather and metal sleek couch not overly modern and defiantly not overstuffed and frumpy! Glass coffee table simple design . A room sized rug? In grey colours to go with the wall,or classic Turkish ? Make sure to have some lovely metallics in you accessories ,golds will warm it up,silvers will keep it cool,if your adventurous mix them up. Buy the chairs last, they can match each other or not.

You need to find an inspiration piece whether it's a piece of material or art or anything you like, then use two or three of the colors in it. I love dark brown/blacks in furniture etc but have found dust seems to be amplified, lol so now I go with lighter greys and whites.

Go though magazines and the internet and begin collecting pictures of rooms you like. Once you've collected a good number, start looking at the pictures critically to see common threads. Is there a particular style, color, feel that stands out in the pictures? Once you identify specifics on what you like, then you can determine how to furnish your room. Remember, a well put together room is usually curated over time with the things you love.

The first thing you need to figure out is whats your style. Go into Home Goods or Pier 1, a store like that. Find something that you love. It could be a pillow, rug, candlesticks...anything. Once you figure out your style...then it will start coming together....check out HGTV for ideas.

Thank you all for your replies. When I asked the same question to one of my friends she suggested me websites like Pepperfry, Fabfurnish and Afydecor. She also recommended the above mentioned websites especially for specific collections. She told if I'm looking for the best living room accessories, I should consider Pepperfry.com. For sofas she suggested Afydecor.com and Fabfurnish.com for ethnic wooden furniture. She suggested to buy furniture online. I want to ask you people, can I buy furniture from these online furniture stores. Is it safe to buy furniture from the listed online furniture stores? What precautions should I take when buying furniture online? Please suggest me how I can choose the best furniture for my living room.

I have not purchased large pieces of furniture online, just small accent pieces. I've had varying luck with purchases. I bought a settee where the color was quite different than I expected and another piece that I had to put together that has a cabinet door that still doesn't look quite straight to me. I've used some lower cost sites, so that may be part of it too. I would suggest if you are considering the purchase of any large upholstered items to request swatch samples. Look for customer reviews, etc, and be sure you know the company's return policy should you want to return the item. Also, know that if you return the item some companies will require you pay for the return shipping , others will pay. Good luck.
