My hollyhocks always end up with lower leaves that look kind of bumpy.

They end up brown at bottom of stalks. What's the problem. Its definitely not water.

    Have you researched hollyhock rust? It's a fungal disease that is very common to hollyhocks. It can look "bumpy" and kind of rusty-orange colored.

    I had no luck with hollyhocks after one year was fine but next year to year were not good. naturally, no more hollyhocks. boo hoo. they are so lovely and hummingbirds love those.
