What is the most economical way to soften hard compacted soil

My soil is hard and water sometimes does not go into it. My trees and shrubs do not do well and take forever to grow and a lot of time they die

Most economical way would be to make your own soil... vermiculture and composting... if you start now you'd prob have a good amount to add to your soil next year

Heavy mineral soils tend to compact more that organic rich soils...blending in more organics is the answer. This can be in the form of clipping, peat, compost. etc. You can work it in with a tiller, shovel or rake. The deeper and more evenly it is blended the better.
