I love it just the way it is Debra, but it would be fun to recover the seat and back with a fun new fabric. I personally wouldn't paint it. It looks in fairly good shape.

I agree...it's in great shape, and I like the color of the wood. I wonder how easy it would be to recover the seat and back? I think it would look really cool with a raw linen or a neutral indian-block print. Good luck! :-)

Thanks. I am thinking along the same lines. Leave the wood and recover the seat and back. The dark brown doesn't really do anything for me.

I'm in the minority...again. I see the frame painted a bright color and the seat and back covered with a complementary floral, somewhat abstract and bright. My porch is pretty neutral and that would make it pop.

Debra, it's so nice to hear you won't be painting the wood. I agree with the dark brown, though it probably worked back when it was new, it needs updating now.

Is the wood something special?? The style appears to be post mid-centurymodern, but the wood tone does nothing for it ... a bold choice in paint would really bringout the lines apparent in the side view. I don’t usually lean toward Modern, butsometimes a piece is what it is...Maybe go glossy black,medium turquoise or bright coral for the frame with a fresh geometric printfabric?

Put a good wood restorer on it, and perhaps change the fabric to an "era appropriate" tweed or bark cloth fabric. It's late mid-century design...a bit chunky for the classic streamlined 60's look, so probably closer to the 70's than the 50's. I don't recognize the design as any valuable designer piece. Is it marked, by chance, underneath, with a label or maker's mark? You may want to check for that and do a google search before changing it significantly, just in case it is of value, as many mid-century pieces are.

Is the wood solid or veneer? I am into medium to dark brown espresso stains and some custom colour stains. I could see the wood stripped, sanded and stained a dark brown with a finish. The material I would choose would be maybe a beige or off white faux suede. Or another solid colour. The dark brown stain would bring out the fantastic design of the chair and the faux suede would complement it. You could even take a fine git sandpaper and buff up some of the edges to give it a more dated look. I would even consider a teal to aqua stain, and a material that would give the chair a beach like feel. I love the side profile of your chair. It reminds me of some Danish styled chairs I have come across. Whatever you do with your chair I am sure it will look fantastic. Keep up posted.

I'd refinish the wood a bit, if only to protect it for more years of fun use! Gently, and then put some new sealer on it. And yes, a fun fabric for the soft bits.

It is solid wood. I am thinking that I will restore the wood and change the fabric to a bit bolder print. The stamp underneath actually says 1985. Who would've guessed?

My guess it's office furniture which much of it tends to have the mid century look. Still worth restoring the wood. Please share when you are finished Debra.

Becky, my husband calls it the doctor's office waiting room chair. Every time he sits in it he asks how much longer it will be before he gets called back. I hope to start working on it soon if the weather cooperates and will post pics then.
