Color Block Wood Planter

I love crafting with coloring, writing in color, color is just part of everything we do and the more of it, the better! So today I thought it would be fun to share an easy yet awesomely decorative DIY Color Block Wood Planter with you all.

What You Will Need to Make a Color Block Wood Planter:

EcoScraps Natural and Organic Moist Potting Mix

Wooden Block Planters (you can either build or buy these – I bought mine)

Blue Painters Tape

Sponge Brushes

Acrylic Multi-Surface Paint in a variety of colors (I used turquoise, pink, and orange)

Succulents or Cacti Plants

First, start by creating the pattern you wish to paint by applying the painters tape onto the wooden planter. I thought it was cool to apply tape from corner to corner, then straight across. Just have fun with making different patterns on each side!

Next, apply the acrylic paint using the sponge brush. Try to brush in the direction of the wood for a more natural and clean look. You will need to allow each coat of paint to dry completely then apply another coat. I applied about 3-4 coats on each side/pattern.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 on each wooden block planter.

Once the paint has completely dried, carefully pull the painters tape off and away from the wooden planter. It should leave a nice clean line. If you have an area that isn’t a perfect line, you can reapply a small piece of tape, paint again (using the same amount of coats as before) and then allow to dry and pull the tape off again. It should correct the issue.

Now it’s time to put your planters together! Gather your EcoScraps Natural and Organic Moist Potting Mix and plant your succulents and cacti. Tip: If your planter does not have a draining hole, you can either use a drill to create one OR use a layer of sand and rocks to help keep that extra moisture away from your plants.
