Scary Goodwill Dresser Makeover
"Help me!" was written on the side of this dresser in red marker when I found it at the Goodwill. This little vintage dresser was quite literally calling out for my help. It was covered in cobwebs and looked pretty scary. I had to rescue it.
I started by giving it a good cleaning and making a few minor repairs. I applied a couple of coats of a shellac based primer to cover the red marker and prevent bleed through. The "Help me!" did bleed through the first coat of primer, so I applied a second coat of primer and spot treated the area with some pure shellac. I then applied 3 coats of antique white milk paint to the entire dresser and let it dry for a day.
Here it is all finished.
To create a two tone scalloped effect, I applied a scalloped pattern FrogTape to the bottom. For crisp paint lines, I sealed the edges of the tape with a coat of the white paint. I then painted the bottom of the dresser in a soft turquoise blue. I let it dry and sealed the dresser with a topcoat for protection.
I added new ceramic coral flower knobs.
I lined the top drawers with a geometric pattern fabric for added interest.
